terry thweatt office Joe Terry and Lee Thweatt aren’t your typical catastrophic injury lawyers—and when searching for a site for Terry & Thweatt, P.C.’s Houston-area law office, they knew they didn’t want your typical office building. Seeking a unique location conveying the stability and longevity of their long-time legal practice, the attorneys discovered Woodland Lodge, a former Masonic Temple and historic Woodland Heights landmark. The building had fallen into disrepair, but instead of demolishing it and constructing a new office, they renovated it inside and out, restoring its distinctive and distinguished characteristics. Their effort hasn’t gone unnoticed—Woodland Lodge is the first business recognized as a historic building by the Woodland Heights Civic Association’s 100+ Club

Woodland Heights Is a Historic Houston Neighborhood Just Minutes From Downtown

Established in 1907 as an independent streetcar suburb north of downtown and distinct from the larger Houston Heights community to the west, Woodland Heights is a historic Houston neighborhood known for its ornate and elegant Queen Anne, Craftsman, and American Four-Square architecture. Though Woodland Heights's once-upscale neighborhood declined in the 1960s and 1970s as families moved to new suburbs farther from downtown, it has since recovered, thanks to the efforts of dedicated community members and organizations. Just minutes from downtown, our Houston-area law office in Woodland Heights is convenient to clients throughout the Lone Star State.

In 1921, a group of three Masons recruited more than 70 men from lodges in the surrounding area to form a new lodge, the Woodland Masonic Building Association. Woodland Lodge 1157 received its charter from the Grand Lodge of Texas in December 1921, with temple construction completed in May of the following year. Woodland Temple served as the meeting place for Woodland Lodge from 1922 through 1980. Though no longer a Masonic Temple, Woodland Lodge remains a popular meeting place, with Terry & Thweatt, P.C. hosting regular events for members of the legal community.
